How To Record Research Interviews on Skype
overall good comparison and thank you for review, I am just hitting dislike button for annoying sudden music played in start and in end.
Hi and thank you. Is it possible to record additional material to a previously recorded file?
Unfortunately not
Hello friend, thanks for your review. But I would say that the 570 is more expensive, because you also have to buy the power bank to recharge it. In terms of size, the 470 is much better. The batteries, you can carry more batteries in case you run out, compared to the power bank. And the most important reason is when the internal battery of the 570 wears out, in the future it is not known if that battery can be obtained. On the other hand, you will always get triple AAA batteries. That is the great advantage that I find in the 470 model. Size, speaker, batteries that you will always get, compared to the internal battery of the 570.
You can use rechargeable AAA batteries and just charge those.
Mono vs stereo (lectures, interviews vs one for that and music, etc.). But if one was seriously recording music would I use a device such as this? 370 can work for many hours.
For the (2) black and red splitters which go into the recorder, will any 3.5mm splitters work for this?
It must be one that splits the stereo channel into 2 mono channels.
Good & fair enough review. Thanks a lot
Glad it was helpful!
This is so insanely complicated but I appreciate your efforts to explain. I have always used a TP-8. Quality is not great but it does the job. The good thing about it is it works on a landline, google voice box, VOIP line, etc. And the biggest concern of all is that cell phones no longer have a headphone jack. Oops!
Yeah, totally agree - TP8 is the way to go for "offline" recording; else use an application. This is an edge case.
Can this thing record in electric guitar effect ?
One question / comment. Cellphone is not designed to take amplified signal that digital recorder outputs, wouldn’t this method possibly damage the audio input on the phone?
Great video, great explanation, easy to make decision from your advice
Glad it was helpful!
I actually like the replaceable battery option. If I'm on location and the lithium battery is dead or low there is not enough time to charge it. With Replaceable rechargeable I just switch them out and I'm ready to go.
i think 3 minutes of charging will get you 1hr of use
Thank you for this review. You helped confirm what I was leaning towards.
Thank you so much for this video... 🙏🙏 This video is one of the best video comparison & explanation of each type....👍👍
Most welcome 😊
Thank you so much for this advice. Mine wasnt recording and it turns out to bI needed to use the adaptor. Thanks so much for doing this video
You're welcome!!
Ok some points you didn't cover in this video to make this work (sans non-faulty ebay cables working and set up correctly). First you need a phone with a large battery, like the one in this video. This method worked with a SAMSUNG smartphone but did not work with a burner phone (despite that burner having a TRRS splitter for hands free calls) with a smaller battery. Second you need to hit record on your recorder before you dial or the wires will not feedback back into the phone. The playback was ok (think callcentre quality) in split mono- and I noted my voice was in my left headphone and the right headphone was the person's voice I was calling. That said if you have a large Android smartphone just use the call recording app anyway?
Unless you have proof the olympus can pick up a phone with a smaller battery.
I'll try and get my hands on a burner phone and test it with my Olympus.
@@_weloty Thanks Weloty. I haven't ruled out the Olympus is different from the Sony as you CAN also use the Olympus ear socket for mic in as well as the mic in socket too! (like a trrs hands free call in a phone the Olympus has this option which might confuse the set up). Also yeah do say how the burner phone does or doesn't work. I believe the battery is too small on a burner. Thanks.
👍👍👍👍 thanks a lot 🙏
Most welcome
can this recorder used as external mic to smartphone/dslr directly? so basically reverse of your method. thanks
Yes, absolutely.
Very helpful. thank you very much.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi! Thanks for the video! Do you think that the TRRS vs TRS thing would be the same for the model ICD-PX470? Thank you in advance!
Yes it will.
I cannot put mine on. How do you charge it? Please help.
weloty.com/taking-care-of-your-sony-icd-ux560-voice-recorder/
Hi, I'm a sound engineer. I own the PX-470 version, and I'm guessing that these mics use the same mic capsules--therefore there should be NO difference in sound quality. Also, remember that these are tiny microphones intended for casual dictation. At best they will sound BETTER than an iPhone recording, but you will get at robust recording from these. There is an advantage, of course, in controlling the sensitivity for close-proximity or a full-room recording. The advantage, of course, is that you can attached a lavalier (lapel) microphone, or other external mics. Would be fun to put one of the fluffy "dead-cat" screens over it and see if you an get an interesting vocal take with these little microphones. Or use a wind-screen. I love my gorgeous, lip-stick red Tula mic, but it costs over $200 as of 2022.
Yap, that'd be my guess too. I find the recording capabilities of both recorders to be very similar.
can you record two mics for left and right channel seperately using a 3.5 splitter?
Yes you can.
In ANY case whatsoever I always prefer a device with USER-REPLACEABLE BATTERY/BATTERIES. Whether they are Ni-MH or Li-Ion or any other suitable chemistries, I want to be able to quickly swap the internal power source units.
Not to mention he pluged the 470 without batteries on a power bank and it still works.
do they record stereo through line in?
Yes, they do.
Is PX470 rechargeable as a phone or I have to change batteries every single time they discharge? Or it is rechargeable and I have to change batteries not so often? Plus do you know px333 , are the batteries the same?
The PX470 is NOT rechargeable, does not come with rechargeable batteries, nor can you recharge batteries using the PX470. However, you can use AAA rechargeable batteries to power it, or a power bank. The PX333, is an older version of the PX370. It's discontinued, but you might get it used on eBay for a good price, but make the price is lower than PX370.
If you had say 100 files recorded on these how can you go back and find the one you want without using a computer?? Files are only dated and number? You would need to have a journal with name of podcast, date etc right? Thanks
All you need to know is the date and time of the recording as all the recording are saved using the YYMMDD-HHMM format by default. Then you can search for the file by Rec Date.
That TRRS vs TRS was my issue. Thank you!
Yes that was great... These are really great tutorials unlike other videos. They are just sales man they aren't teaching how to use stuff
Glad it was helpful!
Man I have been searching for 3 hours... Find it lucky to land in this video
Why you didn't want to show us the full picture of these recorders? Same hight?
This post: weloty.com/sony-icd-ux560-vs-sony-icd-ux570/, has an image of the height comparison.
Hey great video, I want to ask about the distance range without an external mic, how do you think will it go with my recording in a lecture class with no external mic and how good would it be when I record it on my pocket or just put on the table with me sitting on the back or front?
Check out this post: weloty.com/best-voice-recorder-for-lectures/, it answers your questions and gives you tips on how to record lectures.
Sony ICD-UX570 wins!
2:05 internal batteries may reduce e-waste to a degree, but if there's permanent failure of the battery, the cost of replacement would be a whole lot more than buying triple-A batteries over the course of a few years. lol There are tons of places to fix phone batteries, but what kind of internal battery does the recorder use, how much is a replacement and how much would someone charge to do it? It really is a tough call when it comes to battery usage.
That was my biggest fear when I bought the UX560. But I soon realized the probability that you'll get a permanent battery failure is very low. And the battery is good for at least 300 charge cycles. Compare that to the PX470, you can get cheap 100 AAA from Amazon for $25. So the equivalent battery cost is $150 (you need 2 AAA batteries for the PX470). If your battery fails, you are better of buying another UX570 - you'll save money and the environment.
@@_weloty don't worry, the mining for battery metals isn't exactly good for the environment... something Elon never talks about when touting his electric vehicles. I'll have to give this some serious thought before I make the purchase. Again, if the internal battery goes, where do you go? How much will it cost?
how many hours can 570 record on each charge ?
On a full charge, around 20 hours. Less if you are monitoring the audio. weloty.com/sony-icd-ux570-review/
Thanks! I was researching the TRS vs TRRS connectivity of the UX570.
Glad I could help!
This is what i’ve been looking for. Thank you
Glad I could help
A very good comparison!!! I'm seriously considering getting the ICD-UX570.
Please help me
It's very helpful ,,💗💓
Please make more and more vedio like this
Can you please send me the list of wires you use in this vedio so that I can perchase it

3 to 18 settings. More like 15 differences lol
Hi I Want to record a zoom meeting from my laptop using my UX570, but I want to record the meeting complete, with my voice. I use a headphone jafra that has a microphone integrate. Can you help me?
This is not easy. And it's hard for me to assist you as I don't know 1. what are audio in and out of your computer and 2. what is the audio out on on your headset? TRRS? There are several ways to achieve this, but the basic concept is to split the audio out of the computer into 2 - one goes to the recorder and the other to your headset. And then split the audio out of your headset into 2, one goes to the computer and the other goes to your headset. It's easier if your laptop has a 2 audio ports.
@@_weloty thanks you for your answer. I do the same connections that you mention in your video and it worked, but I don't know why when i recording with my headphones only listen by one side. Answering your questions in my computer I only have 1 audio port.
Glad to hear it worked for you. And yes, you will only get one channel to your headphone as the other channel is from your mic and if you output the two channels to your headphones you will get reverb. You can use a mono to stereo adapter that will duplicate the mono into right and left channels...
Thank you so much, I have the purple panda mic mentioned in the video.
Glad I could help!
Hi thanks for the video,, does the ux560 have Bluetooth connections/ rec remote
No it does not. For that you want the TX800.
I would go with the PX470. At least you can change the batteries at your will...if the battery in the UX560 dies and is no longer chargeable...then you have a paper weight, unless you pay to have it serviced and get a replacement battery installed. This is why i do not purchase any device with internal batteries (unless it is only the G-Project portable speaker).
Is there a step by step direction available. The video is not helping show where all the wires go.
I thought it was clear where each wire goes, not sure I'll get time to record another...
@@_weloty its really not the video does not show everything. Half the equiptment is off camera.
Let me think about it and see if there's a better way for me to (re)design the instruction.
Can we contact with phone?
There is a video on the channel on recording phone interviews using a digital voice recorder...
